ChargePoint vs EVgo

October 17, 2025
ChargePoint ($1.4B)
ChargePoint
ChargePoint is an electronics company that specializes in an open electric vehicle charging network.
EVgo ($1.8B)
EVgo
EVgo provides fast charging networks for private and public electric vehicles.

ChargePoint and EVgo are both American companies specializing in electric vehicle charging infrastructure. They develop their DC fast charging networks, offer mobile apps for drivers to find station nearby and pay for charging. Both support international standards for EV fast charging connectors and protocols (CCS and CHAdeMO).

But ChargePoint (founded in 2007) operates the largest virtual charging network in North America. It allows homeowners, shopping mall owners, hotel owners and parking garage owners to install equipment and manage their stations via cloud platform. In addition to the US, the company is actively expanding into the European market.

EVgo (2010), unlike ChargePoint, builds, owns and maintains its own charging stations. The company offers customers monthly subscriptions or pay-per-minute tariffs. Most of its stations are powered by renewable energy sources. EVgo has partnerships with GM, Nissan and other automakers that help EVgo build more stations in key regions where their electric vehicles are sold.
