Enpal (€3.5B)
Enpal
Enpal is a photovoltaics leasing firm that provides solar power systems for homeowners with no money upfront.

1Komma5 and Enpal are both German smart-home-energy startups offering complete turnkey set: solar panels, batteries and charging stations. They also develop software-controlled smart grid systems to optimize energy generation, storage and consumption and use home appliances to create virtual power plants. Both startups allow home owners to reduce energy consumption and ensure self-sufficiency. Both have attracted significant investment.

But 1Komma5 (founded in 2021) is betting on AI for smart grid management. Its Heartbeat AI platform enables energy generation/consumption forecasting. The company does not tale a commission for electricity consumption, but charges a subscription fee for its app. In addition to Germany, the startup operates in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain and Australia.

Enpal (2017) uses a hardware rental/subscription model: customers can rent a solar system with no forefront payment. In addition to PV systems, batteries, charging stations it provides heat pumps. Enpal has its own Heat Pump Academy to address the shortage of qualified specialists in the market. The company also offers services for third-party installers and B2B platform solutions.
